Considered as a symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine in antiquity, the griffin was seen as a particularly powerful and majestic creature, with the lion traditionally considered the king of beasts and the eagle as the king of birds. Made using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and finished with a brown patina, this handmade sculpture features the body, tail, front limbs, and hindquarters of a lion, as well as the majestic wings of an eagle.
